Nasal Silicone Mobility
Silicone s mobility problem after the Rhinoplasty will find that the silicone on the nose can be moved around and can happen along with the silicone deviation.
The augmentation Rhinoplasty with the using of silicone, the surgeon will create the cavity to insert the silicone. The proper position of the cavity on the tip to middle part of nose is above the pertichondrium and in the nose s bridge part, the cavaity will be under the periosteum which is thick and firm to help on preventing the silicone s mobility
In close Rhinoplasty technique the silicone will be inserted through the open wound in the nostrils. The prevention on silicone s mobility or tilting has to depend on the cavity s creating in the suitable size, not too wide, the silicone s location is in the right position and the silicone is carving in the shape that perfectly fit with the base.
For open Rhinoplasty technique, besides the cavity s creating and silicone s carving, the prevention of silicone s mobility or tilting has possibly more efficient by stitching the silicone with the underlying structure.
The causes of the silicone s mobility can be from many reasons as following
1. Mispositioning of the silicone; not placed under the periosteum.
2. After the operation has the blood clots accumulation. This will push the silicone up and make it not attach with the underlying structure.
3. Rubbing the nose tip repeatedly or moving, twisting the silicone.
4. The silicone s shape is not fit with the underlying structure.
5. The infection on inflammation in the nose tissues. Even slightly happens, can still results in bad recovery and causes the silicone s unsettled.
If found this silicone s mobility problem, surgeon usually waits to see the symtoms after the operation for 3 months, to let the body build the capsule around the silicone. The capsule will help the silicone to settle. If the symtoms is still not improved then the consideration of reparing operation is neccessary.
The solutions and prevention on this silicone s mobility can be done by
1. The cavity is under the periosteum and has the suitable width.
2. Carving the silicone in the shape that fits with the underlying nasal bone.
3. Preventing the rubbing, moving or wobbling the nose tip until the silicone is settled. In the open Rhinoplasty will use the silicone only at the nasal bridge and in the tip s area will use the rearrangement of the nasal cartilage to lift the tip without using silicone which will turn out naturally and help to prevent the silicone s mobility from rubbing or moving the nose tip.
4.During the operatiion must has the effective method for stopping the bleeding and decrease a chance to form blood clots after the operation by putting a splint or plaster on the nose after the surgery for 5-7 days.
5. The usage of clean and standadized equipments, materials and operation rooms will help to prevent the possibility of the infection on inflammation occurance.
6. Self-care after the Rhinoplasty by cold compressing to decrease the swelling. The cautious on affected area on 1-2 weeks after the operation, including sufficient sleep, eat healthy food will expedite the healing and decrease the chance for silicone s mobility from happening.
